Gen’l George Patton and Ted Turner have both been quoted saying “Lead, follow or get the h— out of the way.”  If you’ve noticed how broken, complicated, opaque, and expensive health insurance has become, then finding good leadership is as crucial as having the foresight to attract and retain quality staff with health insurance and other employee benefits.

“Our promotion of Hal Schlenger to Managing Director,” said Great South Benefits Group’s president David Combs, “is a result of Hal’s leadership at our 35 year old agency.  Instead of the status quo, he has sought out better, smarter solutions that enable groups to take back control of their health insurance costs from the traditional carriers.”

“Hal and I quickly connected when Hal was looking to be part of a nimble agency,” said the agency’s co-owner Stephen Combs.  “We share the desire to welcome smart change, not change for the sake of change.  We explore options and their performance before presenting to our clients, and Hal has been invaluable to our agency in the search and evaluation.”

Hal has been with Great South since 2019, having previously worked for HIPnation’s direct primary care program in response to observing the ecosystem that his wife, a nurse practitioner, was operating in.  Prior to being in the employee benefits space, Hal worked with technology companies, including several years in Silicon Valley.

To support the community, Hal is on the Leadership Team of Conscious Capitalism Atlanta, is a Rotarian, and a Diplomat for the Gtr N Fulton Chamber of Commerce.  He is an avid sailor/sailing instructor, runner, disc golf player, and with his wife, have rescued over 100 golden retrievers.
